Oda al Amor: Reflections from New Mexico, Nomadic Living & the Journey Ahead
Hello from the Land of New Mexico,
I hardly know where to begin… perhaps with gratitude—for life itself, this precious gift.
As I sit here in the golden glow of New Mexico’s fall colors, surrounded by a community I’ve cherished for over 15 years, I’m in awe of the magic and synchronicities unfolding all around me. From a family backyard wedding to hospital visits at the NICU, from motorcycle rides through the ski valley to Thai Yoga Massage sessions and soulful conversations over home-cooked meals—New Mexico has once again revealed itself as a Soul home. It’s here I’m witnessing the full bloom of seeds planted when I first arrived in 2010—seeds of community, creativity, and Spirit.
It’s now been one year and ten days since I began living a full-time nomadic life. This wild and wondrous chapter has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Despite not having my own bedroom, my favorite tea mug, or the familiar domestic comforts, I’ve never felt more rooted in myself. Along the way, so many kindred souls have opened their homes and hearts—reminding me again and again of the deep beauty of our shared humanity.
To my ohana in North Carolina and Hawai‘i, and dear ones in Florida, the Southwest, St. Louis, and Greece—thank you for your love and support as I continue to expand my wings and share joy, depth, and healing juju wherever I go.
Despite the collective fear and uncertainty we often feel in the world, I want to affirm: being human and living on this Earth is an extraordinary gift. Where I’ve seen fear amplified by media, I’ve also experienced profound generosity of spirit—it’s night and day.
Oda al Amor / Ode to Love
I also want to take a moment (something I’ve been hesitant to do online) to honor my partner, Paul, who has been my co-pilot through these recent adventures. His kind heart and curious mind bring so much richness to all that we do. Together, we’ve collaborated in Thai Yoga Massage trainings, offered service wherever it’s needed, and cultivated a partnership rooted in emotional safety and deep friendship.
For those who are curious, Paul and I have been dear friends for over eight years. We first met in Taos, New Mexico, where he was tending the fire at a women’s sweat lodge ceremony. This connection has been truly revolutionary for me: a relationship founded on friendship before the projections and fantasies that often accompany the pursuit of partnership.
Next Stop: LEAF Festival
Tomorrow, Paul and I begin our drive back East, preparing for the 30th Anniversary of LEAF Festival!
This year is particularly special—and our community support matters more than ever. Recent hurricanes and funding challenges have deeply impacted LEAF. If this festival has ever touched your life, please consider purchasing tickets or donating to help keep this beautiful heartbeat of the arts alive.
